- The tournament schedule went well this summer with attendance very good at all events.
- The education committee has been working diligently on putting together a new and revised PACE program to present to the membership for a spring vote. Our national president Lindon Garron and PACE chair Roger Hogle will be here to answer any questions about the program you may have. This is also an opportunity to ask any national related question of your president.
- One significant change is our national executive director Steve Carroll has decided to step down after 5 years with our association. Steve has worked very hard to accomplish all goals set during his term. His last day of work will be Friday Oct 23rd. We wish him well with his future. If any of you would like to contact Steve to wish him well, do so this week. Gary Bernard of our national office team will be acting as interim executive director until a new ED is in place (hopefully by Jan 1st).
- Our Club Professional championship is a go for Port St Lucie Florida again this November 23 - 25th. It's looking to be a sold out event again.
- Our fall national board of director meetings will be held in Port St. Lucie immediately following the championship on November 26 - 29th. Our executive directors will also be attending the meetings.
- The national centennial committee is working towards a great celebration here in Ottawa for 2011. Watch for the centennial web site which will be launched shortly.
- Our national finances continue to be very strong. It was only a short time ago that our association was financially in trouble. I'm pleased that our national finance committee is keeping a strong handle on your investment.

October 09 President’s Message & Fall AGM Minutes
Dear Fellow Members,
It is remarkable how quickly time passes as we again find our way to the end of another cool, damp summer. Amid all the frequent weather delays, it has certainly been a busy summer for most and I hope this letter finds you both well and anticipating quieter days ahead. Your Ottawa PGA Board of Directors has been busy wrapping up 2009 and planning for 2010 and I would like to take a few minutes to update you on many fronts.
I would like to first thank the entire Board for all of their work this past year. It is truly a team effort with each member performing many tasks throughout the season. As always, there was the occasional stumbling block, but it is the understanding of our errors that helps us create steps that continue to improve the services provided to our membership.
I need to separately and personally thank Harry Hereford for everything he does for the Ottawa zone on a daily, monthly and yearly basis. I don’t believe any other individual lives and breathes the zone as Harry does, and I am sure I could not have performed my duties as President without his encouragement and assistance.
Co-captains, Luke Saunders and Marc Foucault will wrap up the 2009 tournament season with the Head Pro – Assistant Pro Challenge this week. It has been a great tournament season, with attendance at many events continuing to grow. I was disappointed that we were unable to re-launch the Pro/Junior event. We will continue to look at options and dates to try to bring this event back to the schedule in the future. There are several dates confirmed for 2010 and we hope to have a full schedule out early in the New Year.
The Ottawa PGA Junior Tour has finished another successful season – thanks to Jeff Corcoran and Scott Johnson for their time and effort. The full schedule for 2010 has been confirmed and details will be available early in year. The tour continues to operate without a title sponsor, however special thanks must go to Kevin Haime and his Junior Golf Initiative for continuing to provide funding and support to programs associated with the tour.
Education chair, Phil Rankin, is creating a new Employment committee that will look at creating positions at facilities not currently employing CPGA Professionals and will be looking to draw from members at large who have an interest in this area. As in the past, there will be a seminar held in conjunction with the spring meeting in April 2010.
At the conclusion of our Annual General Meeting on Sunday, October 18th, zone members will have the opportunity to join me and National Representative Dan Kolar in a town hall meeting with National President Lindon Garron and PACE Task Force Chairman Roger Hogle. This will be your opportunity to learn about the revamped proposed changes to the Membership and Education Programs of the CPGA - PACE.
This latest proposal, now available in both English and French on the National site, has undergone many changes since its last proposal in March 2008. Your Ottawa PGA Board of Directors encourages all of you to read the proposal and attend the upcoming AGM so that you can make an informed decision in March 2010.
I’d like to again thank you all for the opportunity you have given me to serve as the Zone President this past season. It has been a great learning experience and a wonderful opportunity to meet many of you for the first time.
I look forward to the year ahead and continuing to do what I can to make your Association better. I am sure to see many of you during the next few weeks at one of the upcoming Zone events. If not, I wish you all the best during the holiday season and look forward to seeing you in 2010. As always, please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions, concerns or comments.
My regards,
Dale Pedersen

Canadian Professional Golfers Association Ottawa Zone Fall Meeting
October 18 2009 1pm.
Chateau Cartier Resort & Golf Club
Minutes of Meeting
Directors Present: Scott Johnson, Cody Barbeau, Dan Kolar, Ron Healy, Dale Pedersen, Luke Saunders, Harry Hereford and Special Guests Lindon Garron and Roger Hogle.
Absent with regrets: Phil Rankin, Jeffrey Cocoran, Dany Lacombe and Marc Foucault.
Meeting Called to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 1:10 pm and a motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes from the previous Fall Meeting. Carried.
President’s Report: Dale Pedersen
Dale Introduced Lindon Garron the Canadian PGA President and Roger Hogle the Chair of the Pace Program. (Professional Advancement and Career Enhancement) These gentlemen will give a presentation on the PACE program that will be voted on at the AGM in Moncton NB in March 2010. Dale encouraged the membership to make themselves familiar with the program by reading the document on the web site, so that they will be able to make an informed vote in March.
Dale commented that the Zone protocol document that was signed in the spring has been effective in the sharing of information.
Dale thanked both the co-captains for a successful tournament schedule and said everything looks good for the 2010 schedule.
National Representative: Dan Kolar
Since my spring report there has not been a lot of change.
Finance: Ron Healy
Everything is on track for the Zone to achieve the budget presented in the spring.
A question concerning the merchandise show’s income being budgeted as $18000 and the show budget showed revenue at $34000, the difference was because the spring budget for revenue was for a registration fee only and the committee decided that the fee should include the cost of the show room(s) as well. So that is the reason for the difference in the two budgets.
Buying Show: Dany Lacombe/Harry Hereford
Everything is on track to have another successful show, but in order to have the manufacturers consider it a success we need the participation to be good. The zone has sent numerous emails relaying the message that we need the membership to participate in order to keep the show in this area.
Captains: Luke Saunders/Marc Foucault
Attendance this year was the best in recent history and new events such as the Head Pro / Assistant Pro brought good reviews so it is the intention to try and grow the event. The use of the web page needs to grow in order to increase visibility and provide exposure for the sponsors.
The question was asked which tees the Senior Members will play in 2010? The captain stated the seniors will play the advanced tees and that a separate point system would be created for them so that a percentage of seniors would be eligible to partake in the Callaway Cup if that event is still in the 2010 calendar.
If a Senior Member(s) wishes to play in the Ottawa PGA Championship and qualify for the Club Pro Championship they will need to play the regular tees but can still be part of the Senior purse if they so choose.
Web Site: Jeffrey Corcoran
The web site portfolio was a new area of focus for the Ottawa Zone Board and the creation of a functional web site is crucial to the success of the marketing of our Zone and its members. Our site has been a work in progress for a couple years and an issue of concern discussed at many meetings. That was then, now looking at the present, we have set a priority to update the site and make it an enjoyable visit, where you and the general public can get current information on tournaments, on our members and on our support for different causes or charities. Also, this tool, our web site, is a key marketing strategy to satisfy our current sponsors and secure future ones. For the task at hand, we awarded the re-construction contract to Tim Koss from Full Net Technologies with the support of this committee.
Our new vision, as a Board, was to overhaul the look and feel of our site and use it as a selling tool for what our members are able to provide to the golfing community and our sponsors. I will explain in detail in my Keynote presentation the new features of our site but here our a couple highlights:
• Scoring tables for the Junior Tour and Players Tour
• Updated standing reports for all Tours
• Each member would have a login access thus creating an up-to-date database
• What’s in the Bag and Biography section
• Captains capability to E-Blast announcement
• Job postings
• Photo galleries
• And much more
These improvements has enabled us to have a fresh web site with practical features to keep information current which will make our site a destination for you and your friends. Finally, if you have suggestions to improve our site or any feedback about the updated version, please feel free to contact me at corkygolf@mac.com.
Ottawa PGA Junior Challenge Tour:
Again this year the Junior Tour was a success with over 90 children attending the five events. The girl’s team ended up winning the Ontario Team Championships and Brooke Henderson won the individual girls event.
Next years schedule has been confirmed and will be posted soon.

Dear Fellow Members,
I hope this message finds you well as the cold, wet spring finally turns to summer. I would like to take a few minutes to update you on a number of Ottawa PGA events and activities.
Congratulations must first go to James Spernick for his great round of 66 to win the Spring Open at Carleton. The first event of the season saw over forty percent of the membership participate which is a trend we all hope continues throughout the season. Many thanks go to Head Professional Gord Percy and his staff as well as Superintendant Joel Trickey for all of their work prior to and during the event. I know I speak on behalf of all members when I thank TaylorMade/Adidas for their sponsorship.
Important dates for the near future include July 27th for the Pro/Junior and August 4th for the Serge Giroux Dream Classic. The Pro/Junior has been brought back to the schedule with a new format and offers a great venue at Kanata Golf & CC. The Serge Giroux returns to Rivermead GC for another year, and is one of the flagship events on our annual calendar. If you haven’t done so already, I invite you all to get a team or two together for these events as they are both great opportunities to support two very different causes.
The Ottawa PGA Junior Challenge Tour qualifying is finished and now the five-event series begins. This season the tour has over 100 juniors who will participate, an increase from last season. With this increase, Tour organizers Jeff Corcoran and Scott Johnson are asking for volunteer Marshalls and Rules Officials for any of the events. Please contact the zone office if you are able to assist at any of the venues.
The Spring Playing Ability Test was recently held at Greyhawk GC and as a result our zone has six new members. Congratulations go to Chris Johnson, Dan Geran, Derek Baker, Jean-Francois Mongeau, Marc-Andre Piette and PAT medalist, with rounds of 69-69, Sean O’Malley. Having had the opportunity to meet the candidates, they are all great additions to the Association and I welcome them to the Canadian PGA.
With the recent passing of the National – Zone Protocol agreement, work continues on many fronts both within the Zone and nationally. New committees have recently been formed for Business Development, Communications, Governance and Centennial events for our upcoming 100th anniversary. Our zone is represented in all of these areas and news and information will be provided from the National Office on a timely basis. Work also continues on creating a new Membership and Education Program – PACE - please watch for updates in upcoming Canadian PGA News Bulletins.
Finally, thinking and planning ahead, our annual Zone Merchandise Show is scheduled for October 19, 20 and 21 at Chateau Cartier. As in the past, the Show will include the Annual General Meeting on Sunday afternoon, the awards banquet on Monday night and golf on Wednesday afternoon. The education committee is looking into hosting a merchandising related seminar in conjunction with the meeting on Sunday, and more information will be distributed as the dates approach.
In closing, I wish you all good health, great weather and improved business throughout the remainder of 2009. I look forward to seeing many of you at zone functions and events and can always be contacted if you have any needs, questions or concerns at 613-634-7888.
